About Printer Setup Reference

Printer Setup Reference is an independent digital literacy project. We publish plain-language explanations of the vocabulary people encounter when they set up a printer — drivers, companion applications, wireless connection methods, and the web addresses printed on packaging — together with documentation of the consumer scams that target those same moments of confusion.

We are a publisher. We are not a service provider, a help desk, a repair business, or a software distributor, and we have no commercial relationship with any hardware manufacturer.

Why this site exists

Setting up a printer is one of the few remaining consumer technology tasks that routinely defeats capable, experienced people. The vocabulary is inconsistent between brands, the same process carries a different name from each manufacturer, and the short web addresses printed on packaging are frequently mistaken for search terms.

That confusion has a cost. Search queries built around setup addresses and support phone numbers are among the most aggressively targeted on the consumer web, and the people making them are, by definition, already stuck and already looking for someone to follow. Our position is that a person who understands what a driver is, what a companion app does, and how to read a web address is substantially harder to defraud. Publishing that understanding, clearly and without a commercial angle, is the whole of our purpose.

What we publish

• Explanatory reference articles on printer setup terminology, written to be understood by a non-technical reader.
• Neutral, concept-level descriptions of connection methods — network printing, direct device-to-printer connections, button-based pairing, and wired connections.
• Documentation of recognised consumer risks associated with setup and support searches, including imitation setup portals, look-alike domains, unsolicited pop-up warnings, and remote-access fraud.
• A glossary of the terms that appear on printer control panels, in setup documentation, and in the phrases people type when something has gone wrong.

Our independence

Printer Setup Reference is not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorised by, sponsored by, or operated by HP Inc., Seiko Epson Corporation, Brother Industries, Ltd., or any other printer manufacturer, retailer, or software publisher. We hold no partnership, reseller, service-provider, or referral arrangement with any of them.

Manufacturer and product names appear on this site for one reason only: to identify accurately the products and search phrases under discussion. Their use is descriptive and nominative. All trademarks remain the property of their respective owners, and no affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement is claimed or implied by their appearance here.

What we deliberately do not do

• We do not provide technical support, troubleshooting, diagnosis, installation, configuration, or repair services of any kind, to anyone, paid or unpaid.
• We do not host, mirror, or bundle drivers, firmware, applications, installers, or any other downloadable file. Where we link to a manufacturer, the link leads to that manufacturer's own domain, is labelled as leaving this site, and is never a direct link to a file.
• We do not operate a telephone helpline, a call-back service, or a live chat channel.
• We do not request, accept, or use remote access to any reader's computer, under any circumstances or for any reason.
• We do not sell software, licences, activation codes, subscriptions, or support plans, and we take no payment from readers.
• We do not collect model numbers, serial numbers, account credentials, or payment details from readers.

Printer Setup Reference is published by Deepanshu, an independent publisher based in India. The site has been published since 2026. Our registered postal address and contact details appear in full on our Contact page.

Editorial standards

Our content is vendor-neutral by policy, not by coincidence. We do not recommend one manufacturer over another, we do not accept payment or consideration in exchange for coverage, and we do not publish sponsored articles. Where an article discusses a specific manufacturer's product or terminology, it does so descriptively and by name, without a purchase recommendation attached.
