The driver itself
A small piece of software living inside the operating system’s print service, whose only job is to convert a document into the command stream one particular family of printers expects. It has no icon and no window; it is used every time a page is printed and is otherwise never seen. HP writes one for each family of printers and each operating system.
- Where HP publishes it
- Inside the packages on support.hp.com, and, for most models, through the operating system’s own driver delivery — HP’s documentation states that print and scan drivers for most of its printers install automatically when the printer is connected by cable or added over the network.
- What it is not
- Not the HP app, not a setup program, and not something a website outside hp.com can supply on HP’s behalf.
